Where the clinical research becomes something you can actually make
Hands-on botanical science grounded in NRI's published clinical research. Olfactory flights. Custom aroma and herbal blending. Evidence-based classes and workshops.

Four ways to experience the Lab
Everything at the Botanical Lab is based on published research, much of which was conducted at NRI. The formulas you blend, the oils you smell, and the techniques you learn in class all come from the same evidence base that Dr Cavanaugh helped to create.

The formulas you make here come from real studies
The ASD anxiety blend. The pediatric respiratory trial. The clary sage pregnancy RCT. The stress response series. Dr. Cavanaugh has worked at the intersection of natural health and clinical science for over 25 years. The clinical trials that inform the Botanical Lab span most of that work.
Dr Cavanaugh started her career translating scientific research into practical application for parents, partners, and health focused individuals. This Lab is where her work returns to that original goal. She opened this Lab so that you could experience what 30 publications actually smell like, feel like, and do for your body, and your family's body.
Research-informed formulas
Every blend formula at the Lab is derived from or directly connected to NRI's published research. Dr C doesn't do trends or tradition; everything is evidence-based.Â
Single origin sourcing
Dr. Cavanaugh sources botanicals for the Lab directly from origin: Provence, Tuscany, Okinawa, and beyond. You will know where every ingredient came from and why it was chosen.
No mythology
At NRI, we recognize that therapeutic grade is not a thing. We don't sell wellness theater. We don't even sell finished products. This is a place for you to learn, not to shop.
The same researcher who designed the world's largest elderberry RCT will also be behind the bench on Saturdays.Â
Dr. Jessie Cavanaugh, PhD

Dr. Cavanaugh has spent 25 years at the intersection of clinical research and botanical medicine. She holds a PhD focused on botanical clinical trials, completed post-doctoral training at Harvard Medical School, and has published over 30 peer-reviewed studies. She is the Primary Investigator on every clinical trial NRI runs.
She is also an accomplished apothecary maker, a home cook who loves to entertain, and an international botanical sourcer who has spent years building direct relationships with suppliers in Provence, Tuscany, and beyond. The Botanical Lab is where those two sides of her work meet.
She will be at the Lab on a regular basis. Find her behind the bench, teaching classes, answering questions that would make most wellness brands uncomfortable, or sometimes even hiding back in her office, knee deep in the data that becomes tomorrow's breaking news.Â
